The hubby has a tendency to watch the same movies over and over again. Lately it's been National Treasure.
Personally, I prefer to watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith or The Village. That M. Night Shyamalan is such a great movie maker. This particular flick didn't receive the acclaim of The Sixth Sense or even Signs, but it has so many sublties and subtexts that I enjoy -- such as the importance of touch, how Lucius doesn't touch Ivy until after he admits his love for her. You have to pay careful attention to Shyamalan's movies, and I enjoy that very much. But I digress.
I like National Treasure, but like every Bruckheimer flick, I get tired of people being blown up. But there is one line in that movie that always gets me -- specifically a certain line from the Declaration of Independence.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
That line seems more and more important with our current government. As I receive yet another flyer for a Senator ready for re-election, or a new issue on the ballot, I realize there is no more Democrat or Republican issues for me. Historically, a strong Democrat, I've become disenfranchised with that party as well. It's time to wipe the slate clean, start fresh. It's time to provide new guards for our future security -- and the sooner, the better.
