I took the ball of fire in for his 3-year well-baby appointment today. They gave him a good work over, even made him pee in a cup.
At the end of the appointment they gave me a handful of papers to help me be a better mother. They give me these every time and they usually include possible reactions to the shot he just received, something about excercise, a note about high fevers and always a nutrition supplement. This visit included all of the above but the nutrition supplement was about dairy.
As you know, to be healthy and not die ever, the National Dairy Council recommends three servings of dairy a day. Blah, blah, blah, I've heard all this before. What intrigued me was the back section which listed all the ways you can eat dairy.. milk, cheese, yogurt, cheeseburgers, milkshakes ... Hold the phone. Cheeseburgers and milkshakes? Baked potato with cheese and sour cream?
What I find so ironic is that while the National Dairy Council is promoting cheeseburger consumption, the National Institute of Health is bemoaning the rising problem of childhood obesity.
If you go back to the Dairy Councils site, there is a plug on their front page for Hershey's milk and Burger King. Hmmm, interesting. I have been saying for years that the world is owned by four or five large corporations and they are all dedicated to helping you make the right choice -- and buy from them.
Morgan Spurlock, where are you when we need you!?

Dairy just isn't that good for humans, period. It's GREAT for baby cows.
