The hubby and I have an ongoing debate about nature vs. nurture. Everytime we watch Supernanny, we are amazed at the level of brat some children can acheive. Seriously, some of these kids have made it an art form.
But, the Supernanny always has a common remark, children need your supervision and discipline. Therfore, if your child is eating the flesh off of her sibling, it is probably your fault.
Lately, we've wondered about the geek streak. Is that a force of nature or nurture?
A few months ago, my brother-in-law sent me a youtube clip of Yoda vs. Samuel Jackson. My son loved it. And I mean, we watched that thing at least 20 times before I conveniently lost the link. Ever since that time, we have looked for Yoda on the computer almost every day. He's obsessed with it. His current favorite is the lego Star Wars.
If you do a search for "yoda" you will get more than 1,000 hits. "Star Wars" will net you more than 14,000 hits.
My fear is that he has a geek nature and he will turn out something like this guy.
It's very disconcerting to tiptoe past his room where he's playing trains and hear him humming the Darth Vadar theme.
I'm going to take him to the next girls basketball game and sit right behind the cheerleaders. It's never too early to start.

It's funny that you should mention the nature vs nurture debate. I just started my Early Childhood Growth and Development class and this was one of our first debates. It's very interesting to hear everyone's comments and to be able to fire back when you disagree. The best part is that most of them you won't ever meet, so you can be as mean as you want to (within reason). My theory on it is let the kids learn from their own mistakes but beat their asses when they do something wrong! I've followed this rule for the past 13 years and he's never had the cops knocking at our door (as of yet) and if he ever does, his dad will have to bail him out because I refuse to!
