I struggle with reality.
In reality, I'm over 30, carrying about 15-20 pounds more than I weighed in high school, I have reddish-purple hair, a toddler who calls me "Michele" and no job.
In Michelevile, I'm 25, my breasts still stand up on their own, my butt is not sinking into my thighs -- in fact I have no thighs -- and that hot guy IS looking at me, not at the cute blonde standing behind me.
I avoid reality under most circumstances until it's shoved in my face.
For example, the popular punk station in town keeps me in touch with the youth. I like new music. I like to know the names of the hip bands. And subsequently, I download it on my iPod so when I'm hanging out with the 20-somethings at massage class, I can hold my own in a discussion. Every now and then they play "retro" music like the Beastie Boys which were popular when I was in school. I don't like the Beastie Boys, in fact I don't classify them as music or retro so this doesn't bother me.
But tonight, on the way home from the new uber-cool kid/dog park, the local classic rock station (OLD people station) played "We're not gonna take it" by Twisted Sister.
That's right, I said it. Twisted Sister on the classic rock station. What the fuck is the matter with these people? Can't they see that we are young and hip and our music has no place on that station.
What is this world coming to? I'd rant on this subject for hours, but my hip is starting to get stiff from sitting so long.
Is that a pledge pin on your uniform!!??

That is sooooo wrong! We are not old! I say if the band is still touring then it's not considered oldies (Def Leppard was just in St. Louis). Maybe we should form a sit in at the station. Don't forget...my bedtime is at 9pm though, so I can't stay out too late!
A few years ago I heard a "musac" version of Billy Idol's White Wedding in an elevator, so I know your pain.
Then yesterday, while getting gas, I was annoyed with the ghetto-riffic car next to me for blasting her rap music over the Journey song that the gas station was playing. The thought that went through my mind? "Stupid kid. They don't even know what good music is now-a-days..."
