This morning on my commute to my part-time gig I heard the an old favorite from a long-lost group, Mother Love Bone. Needless to say, I was thrilled. If you know anything about this band, they were Seattle grunge before Seattle knew they had grunge. Unfortunately the lead singer died from a drug overdose after the band really started to gain popularity. I believe they managed to release only two albums before that loss.
However, the band members went on to form a few other bands that you may have heard me mention here before including Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog -- which is a tribute to Mother Love Bone -- and a little band called Pearl Jam.
While I was jamming to the tune, I wondered why was my favorite punk station playing old music? They usually only play the billboard chart toppers, just like every other station in the free world. When I got to the office, I checked their site and they are offering viewers the chance to submit their top 10 favorite songs to play during the morning drive time.
Well, color me intrigued. I had a hard time only picking 10, but if I stick to just the music on my iPod, I come up with a good list. Some of my favorites never hear any air time on mainstream radio, it's strictly B-sides, so if they are ever played, it's a good day in music.
1. All Night Thing by Temple of the Dog
2. The Hardest Part by Coldplay
3. Stolen Away on 55th and 3rd by Dave Matthews Band
4. Somewhere a Clock is Ticking by Snow Patrol
5. On Top by the Killers
6. Yesterday to Tomorrow by Audioslave
7. Lonely as You by the Foo Fighters (Wake up, you're dreaming and I can't stand your screaming..)
8. Hard to Concentrate by the Red Hot Chili Peppers
9. Hands by The Raconteurs
10. Carrion by Fiona Apple
I release them into the ether with love...
