Shin splints

I know I've been writing a lot about music lately, but I try to stick with topics I know -- music, movies, books, self-deprecating humor. I'm less likely to embarass myself that way. But if you're sick of reading about my ongoing love affair with the recording industry, please read no further. Although there is an orgasm reference included.

I picked up (or rather download) the new album by The Shins this week. I am a fan of their current single "Phantom Limbs," so I popped over to their myspace page (does everyone have one of these?) to listen to four more of their songs. I was duly impressed and downloaded the whole album for less than 10 smackers on iTunes.
I love this disc, seriously. And it's such an unexpected pleasure too. The band is so unassuming, in fact, they look like a bunch of fat IT guys. But the music is very full and the lyrics are fantastic. I compare it to a really great, but unexpected orgasm. You're going with the flow, having a good time and then BAM, it's so good, you squeal a little.
I have a great love of music that a lot of people, including the hubby, just don't share. I can't just enjoy a CD, I have to be INTO it. My friend Lauren gets it. In fact, I bootlegged -- I mean, of course, legally allowed her to listen to my copy! -- of this CD and she shrieked when I handed it to her. Then she proceeded to dissect each song into her own version of a graphic art rendition. She's funky that way.
I think I'm lucky to have found something that can consume me this way. So many people are just wasting time instead of immersing themselves and enjoying it. I can at least claim to have fully, really and truly enjoyed music.
Oh, and orgasms...
