Go speed racer

I spent the Easter holiday with my in-laws -- good Midwestern stock, Lord-fearing, down-home-cooking, beer-drinking, NASCAR-lovin' -- how the hell did I get into this family? Sometimes I'm amazed my husband escaped.

I was looking forward to this weekend because, despite my joking, my mother-in-law is an amazing cook and she never fails to deliver a fantastic meal. And although I've given up gluten (no rolls!!) and sugar (no peach pie!!) I still managed to gain 3 pounds just eating green beans (wrapped in bacon!!) and ham.

I was also happy that this would be a NASCAR-free holiday. Yes, NASCAR does not run on Easter. Praise Jesus.

Still smiling and wallowing through my pork-induced haze, I couldn't raise a cry of protest when my father-in-law flipped over to some red-neck channel and low and behold, a fucking behind the scenes look at the 2007 NASCAR season.

You have got to be shitting me.

Ohhhh, I know how you feel. Every Saturday morning I'm awaken to the sound of commentary on the weekly NASCAR race. This crap goes on until I doze off from boredom on Sunday evening. (I secretly laughed inside that there was not a race this weekend) You are soooo lucky that you hubby didn't inherit that from his dad. My hubby didn't have his dad around enough to teach him about this, maybe he's making up from the lack of testosterone given advice when he was a kid....

That was hilarious! You could have Gary Douglas in the house with you, and no matter what sport is on, he is in love with it and bitches if you turn the channel.

Would you believe that I had to watch NASCAR on Saturday. I turned it on to watch/hear my friend's boyfriend's band play "I Like it Loud." It was picked up by ESPN and play through the whole race. Since the race was in Nashville, you can imagine the lovely southern accents and the word strings that were aired. It was all in keeping with the Spring Break in Arkansas. Details tomorrow.
