I am from St. Louis, so I can say this. But isn't it the epitome of irony that in the midst of the Cardinal's World Series victory, the city is named the most dangerous in the country.
I'm particularly tickled by the fact that this study only reviews city urban crimes, not the domestic violence that can occur in the suburbs -- cause Lord knows those SLC women have a temper.
And, this is while the city is holding a parade in the center of the crime-ridden downtown to party for the ball players.
I just can't help but laugh!

I too have to laugh at this notion. Not only does the city throw a huge parade to celebrate the World Series Champions, they also throw the 2nd largest Mardi Gras party in the country and (most years) the worst we hear about is some vandalism. I do understand that certain areas (the projects) are considered dangerous at night, but I have spent many nights roaming the streets downtown in a drunken stupor and I have never been mugged or attacked and I've never seen a crime happen.
As for the suburbs, they would probably be considered more dangerous, especially in West County where all the soccer moms have road rage and run all of the people off the road.
That's what you get with large concentrations of people...just craziness!
My 2 Cents. Alan and I live in the city, in a great area right next to a bad area, I hear cop choppers all the time, constant confrontation on the streets, cops racing thru city streets to catch the bad guy, little kids stealing garden hoses and smashing lawn lighting. Boys breaking into houses to get away from other boys trying to harm them. Jenny and I were certain we were going to be robbed or worse when we were leaving the wedding show just this year, we had to take cover in downtown business...I have seen and heard it all. Alan's car has been vandalized and he has come across one too many dead guys. I live in the city, it is not always safe.
On the other hand – St. Louis has a rich history and a lot of great places to see and things to do. I don’t want to deter anyone from this great city; just know that there is a lot of crime and to be aware of your surroundings.
We Detroit area people are so pleased not to be number one any more that we gave you a World Series.
