Apparently my birthday will be early this year. The Foo Fighters recently annouced the release of their next album "Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace" for Sept. 25.
It promises to be an eclectic (great word!) mix of Steely Dan and NoMeansNo.
According to Dave Grohl, one of the songs off the new album was inspired by trapped miners in, of all places, Tasmania.
After the show, we went and got f*ckin' wasted in the hotel bar and I was like, 'Dude, I promise I'm going to put this on the record.' "
I can hardly wait!
As a side note, I have always been a fan of Steely Dan. I think they're a great band. But I loved them even more when I learned they named themselves after the steam-powered dildo from Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. That's just classy.
Post-script: The Foo Figthers also are re-releasing their album "The Color and the Shape," which was one of their seminal works that put them on the charts with "My Hero" -- easily the song that most people recognize from them.
My personal favorite from that album is "Walking After You." That's one of those songs for me that evokes very specific and powerful memories. One of those songs where the lyrics seem to speak to me personally. Basically, it's one of those songs. I still get goosebumps when I listen to it.
