Of all the things I enjoy in life, I would say there are three constants (outside of sex, of course) books, movies and music.
For Mother's Day I asked for two specific new CD's: Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soilder Boy by Jack White's new band, the Raconteurs.
Both albums are excellent new additions to my collection. Stadium Arcadium is RHCP at it's finest -- throbbing base guitar and fun lyrics (She said, my man, you know it's time to get your fingers wet.)
The Raconteurs was a bit more of a risk, but turned out to be a nice find. You hear a lot of what influences Jack White coming through -- scores reminiscent of Led Zepplin and riffs that drip of The Who.
But my most exciting find of late is a fun artist who was highlighted on Playhouse Disney, Dan Zanes. I was tickled pink (PINK, I say) when I found out that Dan has not one, not two, but FOUR albums we can buy. And if we download from iTunes, we can mix and match our choices to make a Compton-specific CD. Whee!!
Dan's music is a tad more folksy than my usual preferred genre, but he is so singable. And, he's safe to play on the CD player at home or in the car. For the mother of a toddler who repeats everything (including my favorite f-word) it's best to choose wisely.
But fear not, dear reader, as soon as his butt is in bed, I'm putting The Cult back in!
