Award-winning, and with big hair

Thus far I have resisted commenting on this year's Grammy Awards. For reasons I won't bore you with, I am not a fan of the program. However, there was one recipient that I was thrilled to see on this year's list.

I struggle with children's music. I am such a big fan of music and I want to share that with my son. However, Nine Inch Nails is not exactly appropriate for sing-alongs in the car. So I listen to a lot of U2, the Beatles and Talking Heads when he is with me. But I'm always on the look out for something we can both enjoy, such as Dan Zanes.

It's not until you really listen to the crap that qualifies as "children's music" that you can appreciate a good one. For example, the ball of fire has a CD that came with a Tonka Truck that has a song on it titled, "A Peanut." The lyrics reveal the tale of a young person who found a peanut (we know not where), opened the peanut, which was rotten (we know not why) but proceeded to eat the peanut anyway only to digestive distress. It is unbelievably annoying and stupid. And then there's the version of BINGO using T O N K A that will stick in your head until you die.

Needless to say, I was more than pleased to see that the Grammy Award had actually gone to an artist that is not only talented, but thoughtful and respectful to his audience.

The fact that he has really big hair only makes me feel that much better about my really big hair. Bonus!

every time I think of you,
smile for a while
that's the one thing you always do,
smile, smile, smile
